Lufthansa City Center International successfully launches innova-tive distribution platform LUCY
Lufthansa City Center International (LCCI) has further expanded its leading position through the modernization process of the travel agency offers and content availability outside Germany. The international travel agency franchise network based in Germany is a pioneer of an entirely new and innovative travel distribution technology. The new frontend application is based on the platform of Atriis Technologies Ltd, one of the leading NDC providers world-wide, resulting in a tremendous change in the processes of a travel agency. LUCY enables travel agents and end customers direct access to products of many airlines, hotels and car rental suppliers, thus achieving advanta-geous rates for their clients. At the same time, traditional GDS content can still be ac-cessed through the LUCY platform.

Full access to content cannot be limited by external technical suppliers and booking platforms, but needs to become again the confident key of our business“, says Uwe Müller, Managing Di-rector of Lufthansa City Center International. “LUCY re-connects the various booking worlds and channels and unites content from GDS systems with internet offers by using direct con-nect. By this, LUCY offers exactly what customers expect: An individual, transparent and comprehensive service in real-time.”
Lufthansa City Center International has been testing LUCY in Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia. During the remainder of this year, further 12 countries outside Germany will follow. Throughout the first test month of operation more than 2.000 trips were smoothly booked in the new system. This increased awareness has resulted in LCC members from Southern Patagonia to South East Asia showing strong interest in the new technology. LUCY was recently presented at the GBTA Convention of the Global Busi-ness Travel Association in Boston as well as at the FVW Congress in Germany.
The LUCY content supplier portfolio reflects strong and continuing growth. Many NDC com-patible airlines and hotel aggregators such as Ratehawk and Booking.com are readily availa-ble, with the addition of recently added Sunny Cars representing the car rental segment. Fur-ther suppliers will be released and announced in the near future.
Being a multi-provider platform, LUCY integrates the traditional GDS such as Amadeus, Travelport and Sabre, however the focus is set to new distribution capabilities (NDC). For instance, the platform enables the booking of various airlines, hotels and selected train pro-viders such as Heathrow Express and Amtrak, all seamlessly connected to LUCY by Direct Connect. From the airline industry, offers from Lufthansa Group, British Airways, American Airlines and almost the entire range of international Low-Cost-Carriers is already available. In the near future, Air France/KLM, Air Canada, Qantas and Emirates shall be connected. In addition, insurance companies and further car rental suppliers are planned.
